The FunArt Bus, our Mobile EcoCraft Art Studio

The FunArt Bus! In a word, it's FAB!

Weʼve taken our studio on the road by converting an old school bus into a traveling art studio. Our goal is to spread the love of art and our environment, by encouraging kids to do eco-friendly crafts. We show how we can take everyday items we find around the house – toilet paper rolls, egg cartons, tin cans – and turn these ordinary items into unique artwork.

We are devoted to promoting creativity and self-expression, and dedicated to raising awareness about our environment. The kids hop on the bus and quickly turn on their imaginations with a wide assortment of "trash" that will become their new-found treasures.

Laurie has taught hundreds of kids in the ten-plus years sheʼs been teaching art classes in her studio. To Laurie, it's all about promoting self-expression and self-confidence in children – and pride. She has a natural ability to look at things differently and create incredible artwork out of "nothing". She calls her approach "fun art" (as opposed to "fine art"), a roll-up-your-sleeves, messy kind of art kids love. The emphasis is on fun and the creative process.

Known for her easy-going nature, infectious laugh, and can-do spirit, Laurie is excited about this new adventure. This inspired eco-minded gal, along with her brother Rich, looks forward to coming to your neighborhood and sharing her passion and enthusiasm, while spreading her love for art and the environment. In a word, itʼs FAB (Fun Art Bus)!

There's even a Velcro-closed pocket for your cell phone or iPod! The copyrighted ring-opening at the top makes it easy to drop your clippings into the sack! No more buckets that smash your ground cover or other plantsor that are always somewhere elsenot where you need them! The Gardener's Hollow Leg goes with you when you are moving around bushes and deep in plant beds. No more piles of clippings to clean up at the end of the day! When you fill it up, The Gardener's Hollow Leg is easy to empty into your green can or compost container using the fabric handle at the bottom of the bag. Once again, the copyrighted ring-opening makes emptying the bag easy!

Advancing the Earth & science/see our giant globe in Kids Zone!

Founded in 1898, the Geographic Society of Chicago (GSC) is a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization incorporated in Illinois. Its interests, however, stretch beyond Chicago. During the early years, our organization took the lead in many conservation and educational initiatives, including lobbying Congress to prevent the damming of the Yellowstone River. Today, the GSC is composed of members and supporters who are not only professional geographers and teachers but interested members of the public as well. Our mission is to advance the art and science of geography; encourage the study of geography in the schools; recognize outstanding achievements in the field; provide leadership on geographic issues; and promote public understanding and appreciation of Earth's people and places.

As we progress into this new millennium, the GSC is committed to the same goals of our early founders. At a time when geography and geospatial technology are becoming more and more essential in all sectors—from healthcare to government to commerce, geo

For the past three years, we have developed and managed after-school and summer camp Geography Clubs, starting initially at the Union League Boys & Girls Club in Humboldt Park. We also wrote curriculum for an eight-week program in Waukegan, Illinois, called Cool Summer Experience, which was STEM-based with a geographic foundation. In all these efforts, our goals have been to build students’ geographic knowledge, foster environmental stewardship, expose and train students in geospatial technology, and empower them to use these skills to solve community problems.

Having received an Outstanding Program award in 2012 from the National Boys & Girls Clubs of America, we have been invited by the Union League to expand to a second site, Club One in the Pilsen neighbourhood. However, we must secure funding before we can accomplish this.

because sustainable food must also be fair

The Laurel Rubin Farm Worker Justice Project assists Washington's farm workers in their efforts to enforce their rights to fair, dignified, humane and safe working and living conditions. The Project is highly collaborative, working closely with other organizations and citizens' groups like Slow Food Seattle that believe that our food system must be based on the principles of high quality and taste, environmental sustainability, and social justice--in other words--a food system that is good, clean and fair.By creating summer law student internships the Project is able to help ensure indigent migrant farm workers' access to justice throughout Washington. The Project is named after Laurel Rubin, a devoted Northwest Justice Project advocate who died in the course of her farm worker advocacy work in 1998.Since 1999, the Project has sponsored 27 summer internships for law students to work alongside experienced civil legal aid attorneys who provide legal services to farm workers in need. The Laurel Rubin interns work on matters involving worker safety and pesticide use, housing, access to health care, immigration, employment discrimination, unemployment and workers compensation, and consumer rights--wherever the resources are most needed to serve the farm worker community.
