Hunter Lovins is a world-renowned speaker on the environment and how to protect it profitably. Named Time Magazine's 2000 Hero of the Planet, she has a long background in environmental education. Active in environmental education since 1973, she has lectured at universities, elementary and high schools, and to corporations around the world. She is a founding professor of Sustainable Management at Presidio School of Management, one of the first MBA programs in the world in which sustainability is woven throughout every part of the curriculum.
Hunter's presentation has been widely described as one of the most
inspirational shows being given on the environment. It provides a
framework to enable listeners to understand such significant challenges
facing the planet as loss of ecosystems, climate change, energy and
peak oil. Many such presentations focus on the negative and tend to
paralyze young people. Hunter's show, graphically rich and appealingly
presented, describes how more sustainable approaches can solve the
challenges, while enhancing business profit and community strength.
Hailed as a motivational approach to the environmental challenges, it
presents a wide array of solutions now being implemented by schools,
businesses and communities and enumerates what individuals can do to
make a difference. Tielhard de Chardin said that the future belongs to
those who can give hope to the next generation. Hunter Lovins delivers
on this promise.
The Natural Capitalism Principles Hunter uses are:
1. Radical Resource Efficiency: Radically increase the productivity
with which all resources are used, including energy, water, materials
and people. The growing number of profitable solutions to environmental
challenges can buy the time needed to implement measures that will
attain true sustainability.
2. Design for Sustainability: Such innovative design processes as
Biomimicry, Cradle to Cradle and other forms of green design enable
businesses to harness nature's wisdom to drive innovation. These
approaches allow us to create systems that eliminate waste and toxics
while delivering superior products and services.
3. Manage for Prosperity and Sustainability: The emerging practice of
Sustainable Management can enable companies and communities to enhance
core business value and reinforce competitive advantage through
achieving greater resource efficiency and effectiveness. This will
allow us to restore, enhance and sustain both human and natural
capital, as well as manufactured and financial capital.
