Brahm Ahmadi was born is Iran, grew up in Los Angeles and now lives in Oakland, CA. Brahm is co-founder and Executive Director of People’s Grocery, a community-based nonprofit organization founded in 2002 that has attracted local and national attention for its effort to transform inner city food systems. He is also Executive Director of the North Oakland Land Trust, which dedicates land in North Oakland for community gardening. Brahm has a B.A. in Sociology from the University of California and is an MBA candidate at the Presidio School of Management. Brahm combines social enterprise, cooperative economics, urban agriculture, social enterprise and youth development to build healthy and stable inner city communities. Brahm is active in worker-owned cooperative business development and organizing for economic democracy and was a founding board member of the U.S. Federation of Worker Cooperatives. Brahm has spoken at many universities and conferences has been featured in media such as Newsweek Online, People Magazine, Essence Magazine, Saveur Magazine, Mother Jones Magazine, Oakland Magazine, the East Bay Express, the San Francisco Chronicle, and the San Jose Mercury News. Brahm is a Fellow of LeaderSpring, a leadership training program for nonprofit Executive Directors in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is a member of the Community Economic Development Steering Committee of the Community Food Security Coalition. Brahm is also a planning fellow for the Roots of Change Fund, which is developing a strategy to create a sustainable food system for California by 2030.
