FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
DENVER’S DEBUT GREEN FESTIVAL DRAWS DIVERSE CROWD OF OVER 23,000 TO CELEBRATES SUSTAINABILITY

Denver, CO (May, 2009)
– Premiering in the Mile High City in 2009, Green Festival, a joint project of Global Exchange and Green America, made a stellar debut with an impressive first year attendance of over 23,000 participants. Kicking off the weekend with a keynote speech was Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper who welcomed the festival to the city and shared with participants the steps Denver is taking to combat climate change. Now in five cities nationwide, Green Festival is the world’s largest and most authentic green living show that walks its green talk with extensive green features including recycling, composting and carbon offsets for all of its energy use.

Thank you, Colorado, for your participation in the first-ever Denver Green Festival, May 2 & 3, 2009, in the Colorado Convention Center. The event was a great success with:
  • 21,778 participants
  • 850 volunteers
  • 22 TV broadcast media hits--just during Green Festival weekend--for 803,451 audience impressions (and that's not even including radio, print, online and grassroots media!)
  • Nearly 94% of the event waste—more than 14,000 pounds—was sorted and diverted from landfills.
We'd love to hear what you thought worked well and could use improvement. Please help by completing our 6-section survey by 5pm on Thursday, May 14. All your feedback will be used to create a wrap-up report and recommendations for future events.

What's Next?
The co-producers of Green Festivals--Green America and Global Exchange--are in conversation with the Colorado Convention Center regarding dates and space for 2010. More information will be posted on www.greenfestivals.org as it becomes available.

In the mean time, we hope you will attend, exhibit at and support local green events and businesses in our communities.
