Green Festival Speakers
Shireen Karimi works at Green America (co-producer of the Green Festival) and previously worked at Common Good City Farm, an urban farm and education center that organically grows food for low-income residents in Washington, DC. She worked with farmers in South America who depend on sustainable agriculture and land use and has seen the destruction industrial agriculture causes in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and right here in the US. Shireen views food as the bridge between cultures, communities, personal health, environmental issues, politics, and humans' relationship with the Earth. She has spoken on raw foods preparation, local and organic agriculture, and food’s impact on health. Her lifestyle embodies her beliefs as she is at the farmers market every week, prepares whole and organic food, container gardens in the city, and works to improve our food system.
