This post is brought to you by our nonprofit ally, Just Food.
Do you believe in a socially just, environmentally sustainable, and healthy food system for all? Meet Just Food -- a New York City-based non-profit organization that empowers and supports community-led projects that increase access to locally grown food, especially in underserved NYC neighborhoods. Since 1995, Just Food has pioneered sustainable food models, including community-supported agriculture (CSA), community-run farmers’ markets, and farm-to-food pantry programs.
For community groups looking to improve the food choices in their neighborhood, Just Food offers training and support to launch and sustain projects that increase access to locally-grown food for all New Yorkers – regardless of income. In 2013, over 163,000 New York City residents got healthy, locally-grown food through projects supported by Just Food.
Just Food is committed to building a just, local, sustainable food system in New York City and is honored to be one of The Green Festival’s Non-Profit Allies at this year’s festival in New York City. Executive Director Jacquie Berger will be speaking on the Good Food Stage on Saturday April 26, at 11:30am about the relationship between our food choices and the future of our personal health, the health of our communities, and the health of our environment. Stop by Booth #447 to get to know Just Food and find out how to get involved.
Interested in learning more about Just Food and issues of food and sustainability? On April 5 and 6, 2014, the annual Just Food Conference will bring together the general public, food professionals, CSA members, community organizers, and farmers for two days of workshops, skill-building sessions, all-day intensives, and tours. The conference provides an opportunity to learn about food and farm issues, gain new skills, and network with the New York City food community. On April 5, choose from a number of all-day intensive workshops covering topics ranging from sustainable cooking to urban foraging to composting. Later in the evening, mix and mingle with fellow food advocates over light bites and drinks at the Networking Reception and Fundraiser. On April 6, a full day of programming offers workshops, food talks, and plenary sessions to educate and engage the food community.
