Green Festival attendees are invited to recycle their ‘gently worn’ shoes in an effort to help distribute 11 million shoes in 2011 to people in need

San Francisco, CA – March 10, 2011 – Green Festival Exhibitor Pocket Disc will be hosting a charity shoe drive for nonprofit Soles4Souls throughout the San Francisco Green Festival, April 9th and 10th at the SF Concourse Exhibition Center.

Pocket Disc asks that attendees, speakers, and other exhibitors bring ‘gently worn’ shoes to their booth #837 in the Green Kids’ area to donate to the shoe drive. The first 1000 people who bring a pair of shoes to donate along with $1 to pay for their shipping, will get a Pocket Disc for half price.

As 250,000 individuals have discovered over the past number of years, Pocket Discs are hand-woven indoor/outdoor discs. These beautiful works of hand-made, fair-trade art fly all over family rooms, festivals, classrooms, tailgates and just about everywhere else one could imagine.  Fully collapsible upon contact, they are very easy and safe to catch.

Commonly, these vibrant, fun pieces encourage even the least experienced Frisbee player to give the game a try. Their soft nature also makes them perfect for indoor play when kids are pent up on a rainy day and equally great for picnics, festivals and other places where an errant throw might result in injury.

The Pocket Discs come “pre-loaded” on the website PocketDisc.com with 20+ games and 54+ clever uses.  One of the best things about a Pocket Disc is all the new games and uses it inspires.  Pocket Disc encourages customers and fans to add their newly discovered games to the list.

Pocket Disc will be exhibiting in Booth #837 in the Green Kids’ Section at San Francisco Green Festival. A project of Green America and Global Exchange, two leading nonprofit organizations dedicated to environmental and social justice for more than 27 years, Green Festival inspires and promotes the connection between change and sustainable progress for people, communities and businesses. Festivities include presentations by more than 125 renowned authors, leaders and visionaries, informative how-to workshops, cutting-edge films, enriching kid’s activities, organic beer and wine, delicious organic vegan and vegetarian cuisine, diverse live music and an amazing marketplace of more than 350 green local and national businesses and organizations.

Soles4Souls Inc. has committed to collect and distribute 11 million shoes in 2011 to people living in extreme poverty and recovering from natural disasters through its “11 IN 11″ campaign. The shoe charity gives away one pair of shoes to a person in need every 7 seconds. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has distributed more than 12 million pairs of shoes because of the generosity and commitment of people and organizations like Pocket Disc and Green Festival.

“With the earthquakes in countries like Haiti and Chile, on top of the enormous needs elsewhere, we can use the estimated 1.5 billion shoes taking up space in the closets of ordinary people to change the world one pair at a time,” said Founder and CEO of Soles4Souls, Wayne Elsey.
