tomi_oteeAt TOMI OTEE we have a vision of a world where style and nature are in harmony. Our mission is to bring this vision to the apparel world, and we specifically focus on the lifestyle that involves both fashion and for function. As designers of sports chic apparel, our collections are influenced by world travels, by the intense and rich new york life, and the balance between man and nature.

We have a distinct set of values: first and foremost we thrive on product quality, looking to offer you the best fabrics and finishes to help you look your best. Second, we are guided by eco-responsibility, using sustainable fabrics and helping our community, customers and vendors, to care for the environment. Finally we are fun and creative, creating apparel that is unique, and brings a positive energy to your life.

TOMI OTEE is committed to support domestic communities and partner with local manufacturers to provide our customers with the best quality and the lowest carbon footprint. We make our apparel in the USA with imported sustainable materials. The fabrics we use are certified organic or made from recycled material, are dyed with eco-friendly dyes, in certified eco-friendly mills.

As of 2012 we have officially become a recycler of clothes. This is a completely free service we offer to our customers and from which we do not generate any profit, except a sense of pride for helping to become the leading zero-impact apparel golf brand in the USA recycling more clothes than we sell! We focus in particular on golf courses, leveraging their function as community centers, where our ability to influence and educate is empowered.

Our recycling program goes beyond textile and is used as a fundraising platform for charities that we partnered with throughout the northeast.

Revolutionary Health Clothing Comes to the United States

Vastra introduces the innovative concept of “wellness clothing” at the 2011 San Francisco Green Festival

SAN FRANCISCO – March 31, 2011, Vastra, a global wellness clothing company, will launch a line of apparel based on the 5000 year old medicine system of Ayurveda at the San Francisco Green Festival (April 9-10 2011, SF Concourse Exhibition Center).

Vastra is an ancient word from Sanskrit that translates to ‘clothing’ or fabric’, and in the context of the modern world it stands for clothing that is pure, natural  that can promote life, health and longevity.  Vastra introduces the concept of “wellness clothing” to the U.S. marketplace with clothing that is dyed fully with medicinal plants and herbs for health and wellness qualities. Vastra also aims to promote awareness among the green-curious and green-conscious public about this breakthrough in the world of natural clothing.

The Vastra team at The Handloom Weavers Development Society in Kerala, India revived and refined this ancient technique of dyeing clothing to deliver the benefits of medicinal herbs through the skin (known as Ayurvastra), which has been proven by tradition and clinical research. News organizations, including Time magazine and the BBC have covered the revival of this age-old/traditional concept and the growing interest in exploring its benefits.

“The skin being the largest organ in the body absorbs anything and everything that it comes into contact with,” said Sri Narayan, the Washington, D.C. based founder of Vastra who worked for over a year to bring the concept to the United States. “By wearing clothing that is dyed with medicinal plants and herbs, as opposed to the toxic, synthetic and chemically-dyed alternatives, we are consciously choosing health. This is why we are sharing Vastra with a new community.”

The initial line of Vastra’s fully organic apparel, will include six colors. Each color is created using a predominant herb/plant along with a synergistic blend of more than 40 other herbs/plants. The colors come from ayurvedic herbs themselves, which include tumeric, tulsi, sandalwood and neem. The Vastra exhibit will be located in the Organic Body & Health section at the San Francisco Green Festival (April 9-10 2011, SF Concourse Exhibition Center). The products will also be available through the Vastra online store in April. Vastra fabric will also be available for custom orders by retailers, and corporate clients.

Clothing Industry Giants Launch Sustainable Apparel Coalition

“The fashion industry has a huge impact on environmental, social, and governance issues.  Crunch the numbers however you may like, and the textile and fashion industries score high on the amount of energy, chemicals, and resources from cotton to petroleum consumed to manufacture clothing.  The factories in which textiles are woven and finished have their effects on workers from Southeast Asia to Turkey.  Finally, with the convoluted supply chain upon which many apparel companies rely on to turn raw materials into products that line the shelves of retail stores, one errant supplier or contract manufacturer can cause a huge headache for the folks in the central office.

With the challenges that apparel manufacturers and retailers confront on a daily basis, a coalition of retail companies, apparel and shoe manufacturers, fashion houses, non-profits, and the EPA launched a new organization that seeks to reduce the environmental and social impacts of the clothing industry across the globe.”
