Launch Green Festival Weekend with Hurricane Sandy Benefit, Celebrating Launch of SIIR Concept, at HUB San Francisco.

SAN FRANCISCO – November 5, 2012 Join SIIR and Green Festival on Friday, November 9th at HUB San Francisco, as they join forces with CraigConnects and Hurricane Sandy Relief agencies to unite the EcoSystem of green, social entrepreneurs and impact funders, for a very special Hurricane Sandy Relief event.  This event will also serve as the Official SF Green Festival pre-party and concept launch of SIIR!

The event was originally planned as the Concept Launch of the Social Innovators & Investors Resource (SIIR) and the Official Pre-Party for the San Francisco Green Festival Weekend.  But, when news of Hurricane Sandy’s devastating effect reached the Bay Area, Carla Mays knew plans had to change.  According to Ms. Mays, “There is no better way for us to support these efforts than to unite the Bay Area Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship EcoSystem than by making a tremendous impact on the lives of our families and friends on the East Coast during their time of need.”

This fun, interactive event is the first time SIIR is uniting innovators and entrepreneurs in arts, education, sustainable food, eco-entertainment, urban and futurism for a unique look into social capital markets.  Event Partners: Bay Area Green Tours, Green Jobs Network, Food Shift, Slow Money, Slow Food, Fair Trade USA and Fair Trade Floral.

All tickets are $20 and include admission to the Green Festival.  All proceeds will go to non-profit disaster relief agencies directly involved with Hurricane Sandy Relief.

Activist wants ban on paper coffee cups

“Gulp the coffee, skip the cup

Karin de Weille has launched a campaign in the heart of caffeine country to get people to kick the paper habit. “I think Seattle can push the frontier,” she said at Seattle Green Festival, a two-day celebration of ecofriendliness where the effort got its official start on May 21. The thin plastic coating that keeps most cups from turning to mush complicates recycling. Only a handful of cities try, including Seattle. But even if cups are recycled, it still requires enormous amounts of energy and resources to manufacture and ship them, de Weille told theSeattle Times. Seattle City Council President Richard Conlin endorsed the initiative, which urges participants to whip out their own reusable cups for mochas on the go or “for here.” Americans go through 56 billion paper cups every year, according to statistics compiled by International Paper. Starbucks alone gulps up 3 billion.”
