Texas Faces Massive Wildfires, Record Drought as Gov. Rick Perry Denies Existence of Global Warming

“Texas Gov. Rick Perry was back on the campaign trail at last night’s Republican presidential debate, where he questioned the science behind human-caused global warming. On Wednesday, Perry announced he was returning home to focus on a historic wildfire season in which some 3.6 million acres have burned—an area larger than the size of Connecticut. Perry has used the crisis to complain the federal government is not acting fast enough to assist firefighters, but critics have been quick to note the governor has slashed the budget for the Texas Forest Service, the first line of fire defense for most of the state. The wildfires come amidst a record drought. The state has seen its driest consecutive months since record keeping began in 1895, and the impact on the state’s agricultural industry has been devastating.”

It's Hotter Than It Used to Be; It's Not as Hot as It's Going to Be

“Holy crap it’s hot. People, animals, and crops are dying.

But not only is it hot, it’s hotter than it used to be. And it’s our fault. Welcome to the future of climate change.

Let’s keep this simple: we know the Earth is warming up — the data are unambiguous.* We know that humans are largely responsible — the scientific community has been clear. And we know that the massive efforts to deny these two facts have confused policy makers, the public, and the media and have seriously delayed taking any sort of effective policy action to slow climate changes.

What this delay means, however, is rarely discussed, but in the most straightforward terms:
It’s going to get even hotter. A lot hotter.”

Al Gore Launches Climate Reality Project

Al Gore turned from a waffling politician to a leading climate action activist a few years ago. If someone mentions Al Gore now, probably the #1 association that comes to mind is global warming, due to his wildly popular and influential film “An Inconvenient Truth” and resulting Nobel Peace Prize. While there are probably thousands upon thousands of trolls spreading misinformation about Al Gore and climate change across the internet, confusing the public and hurting a very respectable man’s reputation, Al Gore and his message are tremendously needed today.

We are facing unprecedented catastrophe and Gore is doing his best to avert that. His latest effort, launched yesterday, is the “Climate Reality Project.”’

California Law to Curb Greenhouse Gases Faces a Legal Hurdle

“SAN FRANCISCO — California’s landmark law on curbing greenhouse gases, which is well on its way to taking effect, has hit a legal snag in the form of a tentative judicial ruling that state environmental regulators failed to follow legally required procedures.

Judge Ernest H. Goldsmith of San Francisco Superior Court issued a tentative opinion — a rarely used procedure that gives the prospective loser in the case a chance to make new arguments or take new actions before a final decision — saying that the rules creating a cap-and-trade system were adopted without proper analysis of alternatives.”
