Feed Me Green Fest

“Last weekend I had a blast exploring my favorite event of the year, The San Francisco Green Festival! Each Green Festival event features more than 125 speakers and 300 Green Marketplace exhibitors, as well as live music, hands-on workshops, family activities, local vegetarian cuisine and organic beer and wine. This year’s speakers included The Fabulous Beekman Boys, Amy Goodman, Dr. Sharif Abdullah and many more.

I decided a simple write up wouldn’t do. I needed to show the action as it was happening. How better to do that then with twitter and my new beloved picture app Instagram? Here’s my instagram feed from the weekend highlighting all the green conscious fun that unraveled.”

San Francisco’s Green Festival: A Network of Revolutionaries

“If it is your first time attending the Green Festival in San Francisco, the immersion into a fast-paced marketplace can be a bit overwhelming. But as I discovered, if you just take in a deep breath, go with the flow, and take some time to listen to speakers and enjoy some amazing vegan food, the holistic vision of the festival will emerge.

First and foremost, the Green Festival advocates bringing sustainability to the forefront of the global economy. The booths are filled with fair trade vendors, vegan food, and organic beauty products from companies that support indigenous peoples, labor rights, and high all-natural and organic standards. Likewise, these companies do what they can to off-set their carbon footprint and decrease their energy usage.”

Green Festival visits San Francisco in April

Green Festival is currently the largest sustainability event in the world. Ten years and one million attendees later, Green Festivals are going strong in five major US cities.

Six festivals a year are presented: San Francisco has two, and Los Angeles, New York, Seattle and Chicago each have one festival.

A combination of a trade show and educational conference, Green Festival seeks to educate the population and provide the public with opportunities to sample and witness changes in the green movement. The trade show aspect includes about 300 companies showing their products, and the conference aspect encompasses speakers on a wide variety of sustainability topics.

“The goal is to save humanity from itself. We are undermining the planet’s ability to support human existence,” explained Kevin Danaher, Executive Director of the Global Citizen Center. “With Green Festival we are trying to accelerate the transition to the green economy. As the natural resource base gets depleted, the profitability of saving resources goes up. There are many green companies that people are not aware of. Green Festival puts the public in contact with this.”
