For A Second Consecutive Year, Green Festival Flourished in the Tri-State Area on Earth Day Weekend

Green Festival, the nation’s largest, longest running green consumer event, returned to New York for an energizing and powerful show with a feast for all senses and everything green.

POST-EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

WHO: (Includes)Reverend Billy and the Earthalujah Choir, Sara Moulton, Parsons the New School for Design, Eileen Fisher, FORD Motor Company, Frances Moore Lappé, Rev. Lennox Yearwood, Jr., Mark Terceck and John Perkins

HIGHLIGHTS:

The biggest “party with a purpose” brought out a crowd of more than 20,000, and opened with a jubilant EARTHALUJAH from sustainable preacher Reverend Billy and his Earthalujah Choir.

This year’s festival features engaging and inspiring panel discussions with such notable experts as Sara Moulton of Good Morning America and PBS, who led a lively locavore discussion and recipe demonstration in front of a standing room-only crowd. Jennifer Welser of Je and Jo Comestibles led the audience through making an easy organic inside-out ice cream sandwich, and Sacha Dunn of Common Good and Co. shared her earth-friendly (and budget-friendly) tips for creating simple home cleaning products.

The Green Festival marketplace was host to over 250 exciting eco-friendly companies, including many innovative local and national businesses – such as vegan bath products from the Fanciful Fox, Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps, Daiya Vegan Cheese, eco-friendly fashion from Tomi Otee, Eco-Friendly Printer, Joulebody, Theo Chocolate, Emmy’s Organics, and more.

Green Festival set up the catwalk for two sustainably chic and innovative fashion collections.  On Sunday, celebrated designer, Eileen Fisher presented a unique experience from her coveted “the & Collection” modeled by 8 eco influencers in addition to her sustainable initiative “We’d Like Our Clothes Back Now Thanks Very Much.”  On Saturday, students from Parsons the New School for Design showcased their avante-garde collection, refashioned from landfill-bound materials.

It was Happy Hour all weekend long in the exclusive organic beer and wine pavilion, as attendees mixed and mingled while enjoying the best in organic and sustainable beverages.

Green Festival partner FORD Motor Company held their Community Green Grant competition at the Javits Center for five local non-profits to have the chance to win $5,000 towards their cause. This year’s winner was the New York Coalition for Healthy School Lunches. Four runners-up each received $1,000.

FORD also provided attendees the opportunity to test drive their latest innovative line of hybrid and electric vehicles in their Ride and Drive Experience.

The Clif Bar Bike Valet was just as bustling, with many attendees riding their bikes to the festival and parking with the valet for free admission.

Green Festival’s Resource Recovery team recovered an impressive 94% of all trash from the weekend festival. Trash was diligently sorted, recycled, and diverted from landfills. It’s always the goal of Green Festival to be as close to zero waste as possible.

The Green Festival team is currently in preparation for the Chicago Green Festival coming up on May 18th and 19th at the famed Navy Pier.
