The 99% Are Not For Sale – AmpedStatus Stays True to Its Roots, 100% United to Get Money Out, March 1 Relaunch

March 1, 2012 – AmpedStatus celebrates its relaunch today, March 1st, reaffirming a commitment to end the corrupting influence of money in the political system.

From Ampedstatus.com:

As you have noticed, we have not been making many posts to our site over the past several months. We have been fully dedicated to organizing and networking offline. Given our role in building the 99% Movement, A99 and Occupy, we have had several offers from people who are interested in buying the site from us. While we believe some of the people making offers have the best intentions and want to help keep our “readers” engaged, selling the site would ultimately make us feel like sellouts. So… we are going back to our roots and will start posting here on a regular basis again.

The past six months have been an intense battle and wild ride, to say the least. We have been hard at work launching many projects and campaigns. We have built up a large network and formed alliances with incredibly talented people. As we resume featuring the most hard-hitting news and extensive investigative reports, we will also amplify the work that our partners are doing.

Looking back over the past three years, it’s inspiring to see how far we’ve come. As we have done since March 2009, we will continue to provide the in-depth information that engaged citizens need to understand the complex economic and political environment. And, as we have done since February 2010, we will use that information to grow the 99% Movement as a force for economic justice.

Knowing that we still have far to go, we are now focusing our efforts on ONE GOAL and launching a new 100% United campaign:

We Are 100% United to Get Money Out of Politics!

We Are 100% United to End the System of Political Bribery!
#OccupyEconomicJustice
#GetMoneyOut
#ExpectUs
Join this decentralized non-violent movement
100% United to get money out of politics.

L.A. calls for end to 'corporate personhood'

“At a packed City Council meeting that included remarks from a man in a top hat with fake money tucked in the pocket of his suit, Los Angeles lawmakers Tuesday called for more regulations on how much corporations can spend on political campaigns.

The vote in support of state and federal legislation that would end so-called “corporate personhood” is largely symbolic. But anti-corporate activist Mary Beth Fielder, who spoke in favor of the resolution, called it “a symbol that’s going to be heard around the world.”’

Texas Faces Massive Wildfires, Record Drought as Gov. Rick Perry Denies Existence of Global Warming

“Texas Gov. Rick Perry was back on the campaign trail at last night’s Republican presidential debate, where he questioned the science behind human-caused global warming. On Wednesday, Perry announced he was returning home to focus on a historic wildfire season in which some 3.6 million acres have burned—an area larger than the size of Connecticut. Perry has used the crisis to complain the federal government is not acting fast enough to assist firefighters, but critics have been quick to note the governor has slashed the budget for the Texas Forest Service, the first line of fire defense for most of the state. The wildfires come amidst a record drought. The state has seen its driest consecutive months since record keeping began in 1895, and the impact on the state’s agricultural industry has been devastating.”

Top 10 Climate-Ready Cities in the U.S.

“Cities are now home to a majority of the world’s population and are on the front line in the battle against climate change.  While action at the federal level in the U.S. has been painfully slow, cities in the U.S. are starting to lead by example at a local level. Cities must take an active role in helping their constituents (starting with themselves of course) to mitigate their impact on climate change as well as begin investing in appropriateclimate change adaptation solutions.

I felt that it was time to do some analysis on U.S. Cities which are positioning themselves to be leaders in climate capitalism. I have used proxies and a methodology for ranking the largest cities in the U.S. based on a range of factors including political commitment (as measured by number of commitments the city has made with the U.S. MayorsCarbon War Room Cities ChallengeClinton 40, and ICLEI membership), green buildings (LEED buildings per capita), university leadership (AASHE membership/capita), transit access and use (range of metrics on heavy and light rail usage per capita), clean tech investment (venture funds based in city with clean tech investments in 2010) and energy and GHG emissions (from a range of sources)*.”

Dennis Kucinich visits UW campus

“Never sell out, never worry about losing and never quit. That’s Ohio congressman Dennis Kucinich’s advice for students interested in a career in politics that he shared on campus this past weekend.

“You don’t need many people to change the world,” Kucinich said toUW students. “Don’t wait to be invited to get involved.”

As part of his weekend of public appearances in Washington, which included a fundraiser for Democrats in Woodinville and the Seattle Green Festival in downtown Seattle, Kucinich made a stop at the UW to answer questions from students.”

Kucinich's return to state fuels talk he may relocate here

“Kucinich would be legally eligible to run in Washington state in 2012 as long as he moved here and registered to vote before the filing period that spring.

Odds are, local voters will be seeing more of him between now and then.

In addition to the Woodinville appearance, Kucinich participated in a bank protest in Seattle on Saturday, and he was scheduled to speak to student groups at the University of Washington in the evening.

On Sunday, Kucinich is to speak at a pancake-brunch fundraiser in Shoreline for the 32nd Legislative District Democrats before heading to Qwest Field, where he is a featured speaker at the ongoing Seattle Green Festival.”

The Olympian editorializes against Kucinich

Kucinich said he doesn’t want to fuel speculation “that is already pretty hot” about his 2012 plan, but he’s scheduled to be back in Washington later this month.

A day before he addresses a Green festival in Seattle, he is scheduled to headline a $45-per-person fundraiser next weekend for the 45th Legislative District Democrats and the Washington State Progressive Caucus in Woodinville, Wash.”

May be a busy month, liberally speaking

May 21-22, Qwest Event Center (800 Occidental Avenue S., Seattle): The Green Festival. Billed as “the nation’s premier sustainability event,” this wide-ranging extravaganza of alternative, well, everything features a long and variegated list of guest speakers, exhibitors, arts, crafts and musicians. And it won’t cost you much green: between $5 and $25, depending on how, when and where you pay. Be there or be Republican.

Ohio Rep. Kucinich Eyes WA Congressional Seat

“WASHINGTON — It’s been the topic of Capitol Hill news chatter all week: whether Ohio congressman and two-time presidential candidate Democrat Dennis Kucinich would pick up and move to the South Sound. Kucinich, who’s been dodging reporters all week, gave KIRO 7 Washington, D.C. bureau reporter Carol Han the exclusive.

While he repeatedly said he hasn’t made any decisions about if and when he would move, Kucinich said he won’t be a stranger to Washington. He’s been invited to speak at the Green Festival taking place May 21-22 at the Qwest Fields Event Center in Seattle.”
