“This year’s annual Chicago Green Festival taking place on May 14th and 15th at Chicago’s McCormick Place Lakeside occurs as Green Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2011, with an updated interactive marketplace and countless learning opportunities designed to promote sustainability and interconnectivity within the green movement.

Green Festival is a joint project of Green America and Global Exchange, two cutting-edge nonprofits that have been dedicated to furthering environmental and social concerns for nearly 30 years.

The goal of the Green Festivals, which are playfully dubbed ”Parties with a Purpose,” is to promote healthy living by addressing a wide variety of social, economic and environmental concerns.”

“The 10^th Anniversary of the Green Festival will be held from April 9-10, 2011 at the San Francisco Concourse and Exhibitor Center. The event will include over 125 renowned authors, leaders and visionaries. There will be a lot of learning, networking, and new products and services.

The nation’s largest green consumer living event returns to the San Francisco Concourse

SAN FRANCISCO - March 7, 2011 The largest sustainability event in the world celebrates 10 years, one million attendees at the San Francisco Concourse Exhibition Center April 9 – 10. This one-of-a-kind weekend experience offers opportunities for community members to meet their favorite authors, actors and community leaders; shop more than 300 eco-friendly exhibitors; participate in educational workshops; enjoy live music and local vegetarian cuisine; and sample organic chocolates, wine and beer.

Ten stages and pavilions feature more than 125 inspirational and educational speakers, including Amy Goodman, The Fabulous Beekman Boys, John Perkins, Dr. Sharif Abdullah, Zoe Weil, Favianna Rodriguez and Mark Hertsgaard, to name a few.

The Green Festival marketplace showcases more than 300 green and socially-responsible businesses and organizations. Attendees browse organic eco-fashion, green pet supplies, fair trade décor, nontoxic children’s products and much more.

Green Festival gives back GF Bucks to individuals who purchase tickets online or at the door. GF Bucks are the local Green Festival currency, and can be used the same-as-cash to shop in the Green Marketplace.

“Last fall, Green Festival stimulated the green economy by giving back $44,000 to local, regional and national sustainable businesses through the new “GF Bucks” admissions policy,” says Global Exchange and Green Festival Founder, Dr. Kevin Danaher.

Green Festival enables individuals to volunteer or donate to various local nonprofits in exchange for complimentary Green Festival admission through the “Pay it Forward, Get it Back” campaign. The San Francisco Food Bank and KPIX CBS 5 host a food drive at Green Festival, in which community members bring nonperishable cans to donate for free admission. According to the Food Bank, 197,000 people struggle each day to feed themselves and their families in San Francisco.

“The generous donation of food collected at Green Festival will aid the SF Food Bank in delivering nutritious and delicious meals for over 35,000 families throughout San Francisco and Marin,” says Events and Food Drives Manager, Jessica Brittsan. “Every donation helps in the fight to end hunger in our community.”

“AUSTIN, TEXAS — Five years ago, energy prices were climbing, President George W. Bush declared that the United States had to break its addiction to Middle Eastern oil, and “An Inconvenient Truth” — Al Gore’s movie about climate change — hit the theaters.

Journalists spotted a trend and responded with enthusiasm. Articles about the burgeoning “green” movement proliferated. Wineries were adding solar panels, the U.S. military in Iraq wanted wind turbines, andHarvard University was installing waterless urinals. HSBC was buying carbon offsets for executives’ flights.

This type of story is now nearing extinction. Journalists are a little less wide-eyed, and a little more picky. The cutting-edge coverage today does not typically revolve around the greening of fill-in-the-blank company. Instead, topics like “Who’s not going green?” and “What are the difficulties of going green?” are being seen more frequently.”

“The Hershey Company, makers of the popular Hershey’s Kisses, ignored efforts of green activists from Green America and its allies in the “Raise the Bar, Hershey!” campaign. Global Exchange, International Labor Rights Forum and Oasis USA are urging a boycott and letter writing campaign to “raise awareness of the abysmal labor practices that Hershey relies on.”

During the campaign, we examined the stock price, distributed the news globally to all major news outlets and made an outreach for comment from Hershey.”

The Stewardship Action Council Brings Together Industry, Academia, the Investment Community, and Governmental and Non-governmental Organizations to Collaborate on Sustainability.

WASHINGTON, D.C.-January 26th, 2011 The Stewardship Action Council (SAC) announces its formation today. This new multi-stakeholder organization is dedicated to promoting and improving sustainable and socially responsible business practices, providing a space where cross-functional collaboration can take place, and developing a performance-based sustainability index.

SAC is a coalition of industry, academia, the investment community and governmental and non-governmental organizations, coming together with the belief that collaboration among different groups can generate solutions to the sustainability challenges that each group is facing. With a focus on trust, transparency, and technical expertise, SAC offers a pathway to demonstrable results for all stakeholders.

Among SAC’s goals are creating a multi-stakeholder learning network, creating collaborative partnerships to address local and regional environmental, social and economic challenges, advancing sustainability performance and recognizing and sharing outcomes.

“The world has changed, and the time for partnership and collaboration among these often disparate groups has come. If we are to succeed at creating a sustainable world, we will need to combine our knowledge, talents and varied perspectives. The Stewardship Action Council gives us a platform for this effort,” noted Anne Vogel-Marr, SAC Executive Director.

Membership in SAC is open to industrial facilities, academic institutions, governmental and non-governmental organizations, the investment community and trade associations. Members will be designated as Alliance or Participating Members, based upon their desire to set measurable goals and report upon them publicly. Alliance members, generally academic institutions and government and non-governmental organizations, will support SAC, but will not set goals. Participating members, generally industrial facilities, will set and report on goals.
