Nearly 6,000 lbs of Food to Food Bank in 2008 |
In Conjunction with Local Community, Green Festival Demonstrates Continued Support for City Residents in Need
January 2009: Following the immensely successful 2008 San Francisco event, Green Festival donated a record amount of food to the San Francisco Food Bank. During a time when food banks have not been receiving the support they have seen in recent years while the need for such donations continues to rise, Green Festival, along with San Francisco citizens, stepped up to provide a donation of roughly 6,000 lbs of food. With the help of the local community, Green Festival was able to give back to the city that gave the event its start.
Over the three-day show in November, festival participants donated canned good and groceries. In return for their donations, festival-goers that brought three or more food items to the show received a one-day festival pass.
Since the first event in 2002, Green Festival has created a model of environmental and social leadership, consistently providing authentic information for consumers on every aspect of green living. A stringent screening process ensures all exhibitors and sponsors meet the best practices and highest standards for environmental integrity and social responsibility. By generously contributing to the local community, the San Francisco Green Festival has demonstrated its continued commitment to the improvement and assistance to communities.
A joint project of Green America (formerly Co-op America) and Global Exchange, Green Festival is the nation’s largest green consumer living event with festivals in San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Seattle, Chicago, and Denver. Green Festival hopes to see continued support for local communities in each of the five cities included its 2009 circuit.
