Theatrical production teaching about a green planet!
Olney Theatre Center's exciting and eco-friendly production of Treeboy is told through the experiences of 10-year old Avery Adamson, a self-proclaimed super-scientist and "Enviro-man." Avery Adamson attempts to prove to his family and friends that he can save the environment. During his quest Avery uncovers a plot by his father to cut down his favorite tree in favor of a parking spot for his new fossil-fuel guzzling SUV. Avery declares an environmental emergency and stages a protest to protect not only the tree by vowing to live in it, but also the rest of the planet. During his protest he faces difficulties head-on when he lives in a dark tree at night, takes a stand against a friend who shares different views and learns what he can do to change the course of global warming.Twenty minute selections of Treeboy will be performed throughout the weekend of the DC Green Festival in the Organic Valley Green Kids' Zone. Full performances will be at Olney Theatre Center October 17, 2009-October 23, 2009. A unique family friendly green silent auction will accompany several performances of Treeboy. Ten Percent of all proceeds raised during the silent will benefit, Trees for the Future.
