Kelly D. Carlisle is the Founder and Executive Director of Acta Non Verba: Youth Urban Farm Project. A veteran of the United States Navy, Ms. Carlisle spent a portion of her youth in East Oakland, and is committed to creating positive change in her childhood neighborhood. Ms. Carlisle has been an avid gardener since 2007 and is an active member of the Farmer Veteran Coalition. She became an Alameda County Master Gardener Trainee, and has built, maintained and advised gardens at sites in Oakland and Berkeley, and is involved in influencing urban agriculture policy on a city, county and state level. She has spoken across the country, internationally and in the media about her work using urban farming to empower teenage low-income youth of color. Previously, Ms. Carlisle ran a successful catering business that focused on local and sustainable produce. She is a mother, activist, and concerned citizen.
