Vanessa Carter has dedicated the last decade to public education in the Bay Area and throughout Latin America. She recently cofounded San Francisco Unified School District's first Green Academy at Abraham Lincoln High School through the support of ESLI, the Environmental Service Learning Initiative (a project of Global Exchange). Dedicated to reconnecting urban youth with nature, she designs and provides rigorous, hands-on, interdisciplinary education that empowers youth to be agents of change and prepares them to enter higher education and the green economy. Inspired by her permaculture mentors, she's passing on the solutionoriented lens to the next generation through locally based projects that reconnect youth with our collective ancestral earth knowledge. She hopes to expand this eco-literacy programming in the future to an intergenerational, land-based education and innovation center.
