Maureen Dunn is co-owner of Mata Traders, a fair trade clothing and accessories company based right here in Chicago, IL. Started in 2006, Mata is sold in over 200 shops across the nation, as well as at a bevy of local music fests and street fairs around Chicago during the summertime. Maureen and co-owner Michelle King are passionate about making hip and affordable styles that compete with mainstream brands. They spend 6-8 weeks a year in India and Nepal working closely with their producer groups, who provide sustainable income to women at poverty level. As part of the design process, Maureen uses traditional artisan skills like hand block printing and embroidery to create two dynamic collections a year. Maureen enjoys working to expand the Mata brand in a city like Chicago, which is so supportive of the fair trade movement!
