Richard Heinberg is a senior fellow at the Post Carbon Institute and is the author of eight books on ecological issues, including Peak Oil. He is the author of eight books, including The Party's Over: Oil, War, and the Fate of Industrial Societies (2003) and Powerdown: Options and Actions for a PostCarbon World, The Oil Depletion Protocol: A Plan to Avert Oil Wars, Terrorism and Economic Collapse (2006), and Peak Everything (2008).

Heinberg advocates a planned descent down the depletion curves of oil and draws attention to the links between 9/11 and peak oil.

Heinberg lives in Santa Rosa, California. He is a member of the International Society for the Comparative Study of Civilizations. He is also an accomplished violinist and an illustrator and book designer. He is married to Janet Barocco.

Heinberg is also the editor of Museletter and has appeared in the documentaries The End of Suburbia and Chasing God.
