Angela Hurlock



Angela Hurlock has been the Executive Director of Claretian Associates since 2004. Claretian Associates is a nonprofit community development organization devoted to revitalizing South Chicago. Since 1991 the organization has developed 123 units of affordable housing, as well as provided a variety of programs and services for area residents. Prior to joining Claretian Associates, Angela served for three years as the Senior Director of Real Estate Development for Bethel New Life, a faithbased nonprofit organization serving Chicagos West Side. She has also worked for several years as a Project Manager and Architect for private design and architectural firms in Chicago. Angela holds Masters Degrees in Architecture and Business Administration from the University of Illinois, UrbanaChampaign. She has studied in Europe and she completed the Urban Developers Program cosponsored by the University of Illinois at Chicago and the Chicago Rehab Network. Angela currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Rehab Network and the South Chicago Chamber of Commerce. She also teaches courses on project and construction management, financial literacy and serves as a volunteer tax preparer for the Center for Economic Progress free tax clinic in South Chicago.

Under Angelas leadership, Claretian Associates has received local and national recognition for its New Homes for South Chicago program. Claretian Associates was selected as the 2005 national runnerup of The Home Depot Foundations Award of Excellence for Affordable Housing Built Responsibly in the inaugural year of the award. The organization also received the 2005 Richard H. Driehaus Award for Outstanding NotProfit Neighborhood Real Estate Project at the Chicago Neighborhood Development Awards sponsored by LISC/ Chicago.
