Mayor Michael McGinn

Michael McGinn was elected the 52nd mayor of Seattle in November of 2009 after a distinguished career in politics, law, environmental, and community advocacy.

He received his bachelor's degree in economics from Williams College and a juris doctor from the Gates School of Law at the University of Washington, after which he joined the Seattle law firm Stokes Lawrence and rose to become a partner.

His civic work has included chairing the local chapter of the Sierra Club and serving on its national political committee, founding a nonprofit called Great City which focused on transportation and sustainability issues, and serving as the president of the Greenwood Neighborhood Council.

Mayor McGinn lives in Seattle's Greenwood neighborhood with his wife and three children. The mayor enjoys riding his bike to work and helping coach his children's basketball team.
