Keith McHenry helped start Food Not Bombs in Massachusetts in 1980, and a second chapter in California in 1988. He has recovered, cooked and shared food with the hungry as a part of Food Not Bombs for over 30 years. He was arrested "for making a political statement" in San Francisco, spent over 500 nights in jail and faced 25 years to life in prison. He co-wrote Food Not Bombs How to feed the hungry and build community, as well as wrote and illustrated Cooking for Peace -Cultivating Community, Reaping Revolution-Transforming the World with Food Not Bombs. He continues to volunteer with Food Not Bombs which shares free vegan meals in over 1,000 cities around the world.
