Joe and Linda Michon hail from Boston where Joe practiced ophthalmology while teaching at the medical school and where Linda directed a program at Centro Presente for refugees fleeing the violent conflicts in Central America. In 1989 they left Boston and embarked on a 20 year journey of full time medical mission work that took them to the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America and Bolivia. The people they met and the injustice they witnessed set them up to become passionate about Fair Traded when they first learned of the movement in 2003. They have facilitated countless Fair Trade dialogues with students, faith communities, civic groups and businesses and have initiated Fair Trade programs in diverse communities. They have been residents of Claremont, California since 2010. There they gathered a team of citizens and organizations to create a groundswell of support for Fair Trade. Claremont attained Fair Trade Town status in the spring of 2012.
