Born and raised in Los Angeles, Irma is one of Josemaria and Josefina Muñoz’s seven daughters. She was brought up in a home with strong family values, an unwavering commitment to education and a deep respect for their Mexican heritage and cultural traditions.
Irma founded Mujeres de la Tierra, a nonprofit organization in Los Angeles that works with families to better their lives by enhancing their neighborhoods and strengthening community life. Mujeres de la Tierra has worked on the Los Angeles River Revitalization Master Plan, the development of Mariposa Gibson Park in El Monte, CA, and the degradation of community health due to oil wells in Baldwin Hills.
Irma worked at San Diego State University’s Housing Office, TreePeople, Centre City Development Corporation and was a Presidential Appointee with the Clinton Administration. She graduated from UC San Diego and earned a Juris Doctorate from Thomas Jefferson School of Law.
