Alex Poltorak joined Education Pioneers in Chicago in summer 2010 after completing the MBA program at the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management. Alex spent the summer working at the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) in the Office of Teaching and Learning. Alex's projects included designing a database to store implementation data for the Response to Intervention (RtI) initiative. He coordinated with other departments to ensure that this stopgap measure would fit into longer-term technologies like CPS University for professional development and Sharepoint for interaction logging in the future. Before graduate school, Alex worked at LSI Corporation, a leading semi-conductor engineering firm, as a customer engineer managing intellectual property between globally dispersed internal and customer teams to enable cutting-edge semiconductor designs. During his undergraduate studies in electrical and computer engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Alex interned with Micron Technologies as a product engineer to validate and characterize new Flash memory products. Alex has also worked in a family IT consulting firm and as a tennis instructor in roles that were face-to-face with customers, children, parents and all sorts of stakeholders on a daily basis.
Alex is currently on the Steering Committee for the Advocates for Urban Agriculture, Illinois Stewardship Alliance. He is also the founder of Urban Canopy.
