Steve Rudicel



Steve Rudicel is owner of the urban micro-dairy Mariposa Creamery and is also an LA County Master Food Preserver, goat herder, cheese maker and owner of The Press Restaurant in Claremont. Steve also hosts the Altadena Urban Farmers Market, and is an Instructor for the Institute of Domestic Technology and Lecturer at Cal Poly Pomona.

Steve Rudicel and his partner Gloria Putnam have been raising goats and making cheese in Altadena since 2009. They are both graduates of the Artisan Cheesemaking course at the Dairy Products Technology Center, California State Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo. Their mold-ripened goat cheese “Mariposa Bijou” won a Gold Medal at in the International Dairy Competition at the Los Angeles County Fair in 2010.

The Mariposa Creamery is a micro-dairy at the historic Zane Grey Estate in the suburban neighborhood of Altadena, in the foothills north east of Los Angeles. They keep approximately 10 Nubian goats, milk them by hand, and make a variety of cultured milk products including cheeses.
