Kate Shackford


Kate Shackford is Executive Vice President overseeing business services for the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (BOEDC), economic consultants to Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr.  Until recently, Ms. Shackford was Director for Energy and the Environment at BOEDC. The Borough President has established the Bronx Initiative for Energy and the Environment, which Kate also manages.

The Initiative has three grants programs and a no interest Environmental Revolving Loan Fund. Kate assists local businesses in becoming more environmentally friendly and energy efficient in making recommendations for improved technologies such as Photovoltaic Panel and Green Roof installation projects, and in applying to grant and loan programs currently offered through the BOEDC. Kate also manages the Green Jobs/Green New York Bronx Outreach Project, through which homeowners, small businesses and nonprofits receive free energy assessments and can obtain low interest financing for retrofits to lower their energy costs.

Prior to her tenure at BOEDC, Kate worked with Operation Crossroads Africa, recruiting young people for rural development projects in Africa and Brazil, and spent the previous ten years directing alternative to incarceration programs for women offenders. She has a graduate degree in African Studies from the University of Edinburgh.
