Green Festival Speakers
Dr. Valerie Shelton is a green entrepreneur, green building consultant, energy auditor, and trainer. Her background is in scientific research, and she applies this knowledge to inform clients of energy efficient and ecofriendly solutions for their homes, buildings, and businesses. She is an independently authorized agent of Green Irene, a national network of ecoconsultants helping businesses adopt sustainable practices and earn the Green Business Bureau Certification.
By serving as an outsourced Chief Sustainability Officer, Dr. Shelton helps businesses develop their sustainability strategy; identify opportunities and implement solutions for energy ; water efficiency, waste reduction ; recycling, green purchasing, and GHG emissions reduction; and finally, communicate their sustainable message.
Valerie is the founder and managing member of Green Power Living LLC, where she provided ENERGY STAR certification and consulting for the first LEEDcertified home in Prince George's County, MD. Founded in 2007, the company has provided services for local governments, Habitat for Humanity affiliates, neighborhood associations, and private clients in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Northern Virginia.
Valerie is a RESNETcertified HERS Rater ; Green Rater, a BPIcertified Building Analyst ; Envelope Professional, and a LEED Accredited Professional. She serves as an adjunct faculty member at Prince George's Community College (Construction and Energy Institute) and Baltimore City Community College. She received a B.A. in chemistry from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1988 and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Chicago in 2001.
