Weyland Southon

Weyland Southon is a first generation Samoan Chinese American, a San Francisco native, a proud resident of West Oakland, and a stay-at-home Dad. Weyland is also a journalist, DJ, and master of ceremonies who is widely known for his audacious radio programming on KPFA FM. His most popular works were 7 Generations (Native wisdom, food justice, family farm advocacy) and Hard Knock Radio (Hiphop-based news, views, arts). Recently, Weyland co-founded Father Figures, an irreverent parenting show co-hosted with NY Times Bestselling Author Adam Mansbach. Weyland also helps organize a Bay Area iteration of the global family-friendly nightclub party Baby Loves Disco. In 2013 he will be editing a new Voice of Witness (VoW) volume, which will feature young Native and Traditional first-person narratives from across North America. VoW is a non-profit book series that depicts human rights crises through the personal stories of the men and women who experience them. Weyland sits on the Advisory Board of the Estria Invitational Graffiti Battle and has previously served on the Board of Directors for Youth Speaks and the Ecology Center.
