Patrick Spencer, Executive Director of the Cork Forest Conservation Alliance (CFCA), has been involved in the Slow Food movement and sustainable restaurant initiatives throughout his 30-year career in the food and beverage industry. As Sustainability Coordinator for Willamette Valley Vineyards, he founded the Cork Forest Conservation Alliance in 2008, whose mission is to preserve and protect the Mediterranean cork forests. This NGO has established a global cork recycling program and natural cork certification and educational programs. The CFCA is currently developing cork forest conservation programs with all 7 cork producing countries. In 2010, the CFCA and Willamette Valley Vineyards received the Rainforest Alliance “Sustainable Standard-Setter Award” for their cork forest conservation efforts.
