Washington DC

28 Years of Greening America

Working for nearly a year on each Green Festival - you often lose site of the big picture while buried in all the daily details.

This year has been no different.  The logistics are never ending. But it's all worth it - especially when the city starts to buzz about the event. As we do our grassroots marketing, street teaming and hanging posters, people come out to tell us they can't wait to come to the event.

Let me give you an inside scoop!

The fashion shows will knock your socks off - the new textiles and the amazing designs and colors are breathtaking! Even rock star Bono's business EDUN, will be with us in Washington DC to show-off their new t-shirts produced with organic cotton at an African cooperative.

The music will be the best ever - we have pulled together amazing local bands and musicians.

We have the best program ever at Annie's Green Kids Zone - jewelry making with water bottles, jump ropes from plastic bags and bowling for trash!

And for me I can't wait to find that next beautiful beaded bracelet to add to my fair trade collection.

I just celebrated my 28th year here at Green America and was thinking about other anniversaries too. When we launched the Washington D.C. Green Festival in 2004 with a small staff and big dreams, we never thought we'd make it this far.

But we are back at the Washington Convention Center for our 7th year, focused on making the Green Festival an exciting experience for everyone who comes, whether they're young or old, whether this is their first Green Festival or their... seventh.

Yours for inspiration and a fabulous Green Festival,

Denise Hamler
