The beauty of a handmade carpet is inextricably linked to the people who make it. Yet today some 250,000 children work under inhumane conditions to weave the rugs that adorn our homes. RugMark, the organization overseeing the GoodWeave certification program, offers hope to these children.
RugMark is proud to present Faces of Freedom, a photography exhibition on child labor in the rug industry and GoodWeave’s innovative solution to combat it, at the DC Green Festival. Visit the Fair Trade Pavilion to journey behind the looms and inside the lives of the South Asian carpet weavers featured in Faces of Freedom. And look for the GoodWeave label, your best assurance that the carpet or rug you are buying is child-labor-free.
