28 Years of Greening America

Working for nearly a year on each Green Festival - you often lose site of the big picture while buried in all the daily details.
This year has been no different. The logistics are never ending. But it's all worth it - especially when the city starts to buzz about the event. As we do our grassroots marketing, street teaming and hanging posters, people come out to tell us they can't wait to come to the event.
Let me give you an inside scoop!
The fashion shows will knock your socks off - the new textiles and the amazing designs and colors are breathtaking! Even rock star Bono's business EDUN, will be with us in Washington DC to show-off their new t-shirts produced with organic cotton at an African cooperative.
The music will be the best ever - we have pulled together amazing local bands and musicians.
Pay it Forward, Get it Back in DC
As the nation’s largest sustainability event, Green Festival seeks not only to bring an amazing weekend of education and fun to each city, but also to leave a lasting impact. We are always looking for new ways to connect and empower communities. This fall is no exception as we proudly unveil the “Pay it Forward, Get it Back at Green Festival” campaign to unite with local nonprofit organizations and reward local people who take an active interest in their communities.
Our “nonprofit allies” are a mixture of amazing organizations dedicated to improving the environment, providing social services, educating youth, securing a safe and just workspace and more. As we strive to recover during these difficult economic times, it is more important than ever to pay it forward, even if all we can give is our time.
With “Pay it Forward, Get it Back” you can pledge volunteer hours, take part in nonprofit activities, or donate funds to receive complimentary tickets to Green Festival. You will also receive the personal satisfaction of knowing you made a difference.

Best Fall Foliage Around DC
A guest blog by Genevieve Concannon of Arbour Realty
The countdown is on for the Fall weather to kick in. School is back in session, pools are about to start closing up for the season, and leaves are most definitely starting to turn their lush greens into rustic browns. Maybe the high heat of this current Summer is to blame for the early fall leaves, but maybe that means there will be a fantastic show of fall leave colors in the DC Metro area this year. Not only do we get the beautiful sweet cherry blossoms in the Spring time around Northern Virginia and DC, but we also get fiery -fall foliage! You don't have to head to Vermont to get a fabulous show of electric yellow, dashing red and deep chocolate leaves if you live or are visiting the surrounding DC communities. Here are a few roadways and parks you can do a day trip to see some beautiful fall leaves. Mark you calendars for the later part of September and early October for the best leaves:
Day Trips to see beautiful fall foliage around DC:
- Shenandoah National Park
- Great Falls National Park
- Skyline Drive
- 7100- Fairfax County Parkway
Maryland even has the Autumn Glory Festival! They say that October and early November are the best fall leave viewing times in Maryland... but it can change from year to year, especially with the crazy weather we've been experiencing up here!
